Who is Cambrian?
Cambrian Biotechnologies Inc. is a Delaware registered corporation based in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.

It is located in the Pocono Mountains, a designated high quality water shed area, where it utilizes purified mountain water, sourced from natural aquifers, for its natural, organic HBA & Wellness formulations.

What kind of products does Cambrian make?
Cambrian formulates and produces original, organic HBA and wellness Ecklonia kelp based products.

Our “Ocean Glow®” formulations are aimed at containing the maximum amount of Ecklonia kelp possible as we view this ingredient the most valued component in the package. Other HBA seaweed products mostly contain minor, negligible amounts of sea weed or algae. Our goal is to formulate using 100% organic certifiable components.

Who are Cambrian's loyal customers?
Our customers are environmentally aware and conscious of the questionable after-effects of some of the chemical components utilized in ‘chemical’ hair & skin products. The Ocean Glow® product range offers healing and relief to a wide variety of skin irritations and also has the ability to nourish hair and scalp thereby maintaining shiny, healthy, fuller and more manageable hair. Totally organically! Try it today and share your experiences with us.

What is unique about Ocean Glow® products and the Ecklonia kelp as utilized in the Ocean Glow® range?  Ecklonia maxima grows prolifically on the Southern African coast line. It is exposed to significant offshore currents flowing up from Antarctica.

The Benguela current, (http://oceancurrents.rsmas.miami.edu/atlantic/benguela.html) particularly rich in nutrients, is pushed inshore by strong seasonal winds, continuously supplying the South African Cape kelp reefs with high quality, cold, unpolluted ocean water. The strong wave action has resulted in Ecklonia adapting to such an environment by strengthening it’s tissue with extremely high levels of alginate gel. Ecklonia stypes (stems) have a texture comparable to that of hard rubber due to this factor.

The plant attaches to the rocky reef substrate by means of a ‘holdfast’ – a modified root system, which serves to anchor the buoyant plant to the rocky reef. Stypes and fronds (leaves) grow at an extremely rapid pace, selectively incorporating and concentrating a widely diverse range of nutrients contained in the sea water in it’s tissue.

This results in a dynamic, renewable, nutrient dense resource of fresh Ecklonia material.

Cambrian’s methods of production as used for both the fresh Ecklonia concentrated cytoplasm as well as the nutrient rich alginate Ecklonia gel serum are unique and directly related to resulting product effectiveness.

The freshly harvested Ecklonia is subjected to mechanical cell shearing technology to release and concentrate the fresh cytoplasm. Heat, dehydration, freezing and hydrolyses is considered to be destructive to the natural organic components and therefore avoided during production.

Is there an organic preservative system in the products?
All components 100% organic certifiable, including stabilizer system.

Factory locations.
Phase one production – Cambrian Biotech SA, Located in Hermanus, Cape South Africa. The factory, close to the Ecklonia kelp reefs, produce, under enforced hygienic conditions, Ecklonia kelp materials suitable for application in HBA products.

How is the fresh Ecklonia kelp harvested?
Depending on location & wave action/weather, the Ecklonia kelp is either cut off 4 ft below surface by using long submersible blades or by SCUBA diving activity. The crisp fresh kelp, fronds and stypes, is loaded on zodiac inflatable boats and transported to the beach offloading site. From there is loaded in an insulated truck and transported to the factory for Phase one production. The kelp is processed on average about 2 to 3 hours after harvesting. The cells of the kelp need to be ‘crisp fresh’ to ensure effective cell wall disruption during processing.

Phase one production, done at Cambrian Biotech SA premises, produces organically stabilized concentrated Ecklonia Kelp Cytoplasm. This material is then shipped to Cambrian USA warehouse for bulk phase two HBA production.

How is the fresh kelp processed?
Purely mechanical thereby totally avoiding applying harsh chemicals, dehydration, enzymatic, heat and/or freezing processing. Cambrian Biotech’s nutrient rich, alginate kelp serum is manufactured from dehydrated Ecklonia kelp meal and fortified with fresh Ecklonia kelp cytoplasm during Phase two manufacturing in the US.

Cambrian Biotech SA is supplied with naturally farmed, fresh, raw material harvested from extensive, local Ecklonia Kelp reefs.
The freshly harvested, crisp Ecklonia kelp is transported by boats to the offloading site.
Ecklonia Kelp is an extremely rapid grower; selecting and incorporating a wide variety of the ocean water’s rich nutrients into it’s tissue.
An underwater Ecklonia kelp forest, a highly productive sytem.
The harvesting of Ecklonia is well controlled and monitored by marine biologists to avoid over utilization of the system.
